Pussy Galore!

No, 'Pussy Galore' does not refer to a James Bond picture being uploaded. I started experimenting with 'digital' art. Creating a picture from scratch using photoshop instead of pencil and ink.

I figured I'd be able to, as I'd once managed a pretty decent face using only Microsoft Paint - which is incredibly shit.

I think it was a couple years ago that I had my first real go at this kind of art, creating a picture of a landscape and the SDF-1 from Robotech or Macross. However, I can't find that picture now and it may have been deleted when my laptop broke down. Damn!

Still, this one is better! From the pages of Batman comes: CATWOMAN!

S.B. - The Strip. Chapter 2

Hi, all!
Busy day, yesterday, working on scripts with a friend. So, I'm uploading the next comic TODAY. OK, it's a bit late in the day but… came down with a case of serious 'CBFitis'.

Anyhow, here now, duckies!

The second installment of S.B. is below. This is my 'silent' epic, as there is no dialogue. You have to discern the story from the images, so it's a good challenge for my art and for your understanding. But, really, just sit back and read the story and enjoy it. Hopefully you will be so involved that you will 'fill in the silent blanks' yourself. Yay.

I advise you to read last week's chapter first as it is serialised. It is also very 'free-form' - no ruled panels and such. Just the power of pencil and heart to form some nifty sketchings. Go and enjoy!

Colourful Nightmares!

I hope you have been enjoying the staggering brilliance that is my work. OK, I probably haven't even put my best stuff up, yet. But that's a matter of opinion, perhaps.

Aaanyway, today I'll put up some character design work for an idea I had to do an animation of the un-made Doctor Who story "The Nightmare Fare", starring (or would have done) Colin Baker as the Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri and probably with Michael Gough as the Celestial Toymaker.

S.B. - The Strip. Chapter 1

OK, peeps!

Here's my original character in my original story all done by my original self. As described in a previous post (or two) this is pencil work and some of it is more rough around the edges than the rest.

As I was doodling the first scene on the bus (or wherever the hell I was) I thought "actually, I'll keep going and flesh it out, see where it goes". What you see is completely unscripted and evolves all on its own as I draw. This is how I used to work and I love it!

This is a character and a story I've been wanting to do for a while and is probably my most drawn figure when I feel inspired to sketch (so you may see a few scenes featuring this character up on display now and again, outside the comic). The character revealed itself to me in a vision one night and has never left me alone since then. His story started to come to me, and so developed the plot and other characters and I knew that the story would become a series of graphic novels. So, when my plans to create a comic publishing company started a couple of years ago, I knew this was a story I would do very soon into it. Not right away, but soon! I hope. :-P

Now, what you will read each week is not what is going to be in the graphic novels. Not exactly, anyway. The art will be all new and the story structured differently and probably in full colour (and, at least, inked).

What is about to follow is in pencil only and contains NO dialogue (well, except one word which prompted me to stop and decide not to put anything further in). It's a bit of an experiment and will be a great test of my art and storytelling abilities to see what the audience gets out of it. To a certain degree, there is room for the readers to get their own story out of it. But I hope you are able to follow what I've put down and really hope you can get something out of it.

For this comic I ESPECIALLY would appreciate feedback, comments and anything else you have to give. Please comment, subscribe and enjoy!

First up, I've been posting that the third Slappy The Sensorite comic would be put up. Um… apparently not, as the scan of it is not on my hard drive. I'm sure it exists, though! It just means I'll have to go hunting for it. Eek!

Sorry, guys, no Slappy today. I know you'll all be crushed. Totally my bad.

However, I'm still going to do two posts, so here's a picture for the Who fans to make amends for Slappy's shyness today.

Something New…

OK, I've had no time to really do anything this past week, and the last weekend flew by before I could sit down and really nut Night Light out further.

"Nut?"

Meh. Anyway, whilst doing my regular wanderings on busses and things I have devoted any spare collection of minutes I get to working on an original strip. It's one I've had in mind for years, and I started sketching out one scene which I knew would probably open the story. Well, I did that. And kept going.

So far, I've got about 2 installments completed. Now, this strip is quite 'rough' and there are no ruled panels and such. It's deliberately staying 'hand-drawn' and on 'impulse'. It has not been scripted, but I know where it needs to go.

Also, I've decided to avoid adding dialogue. This way, you really have to read into it. It'll be a great test to see if my images get a story across without the crutch of narrative text. I'll post the first installment up on the weekend, along with the third installment of Slappy The Sensorite. That'll be TWO new comics for you to read, my beloved fans!

SB will be a bit of a test. The story proper is going to become a graphic novel and will be re-drawn and re-structured for that. But this 'strip' version will be a good tester. I would LOVE feedback and comments on this one, guys.

Until the weekend, here's something else for you to drool over. G'on, you know you love it!

I'm still waiting for someone to give me some REQEUSTS! If there's something you want to see me do (Here! No lewd comments from you!) tell me in a comment.

Procrastination Fascination! Slappy The Sensorite Comic #2.

OK. Yeah. So, I'm not putting Night Light up, yet. I'm not even confident about next Saturday. The artwork is done. In pencil. I've scripted part two, now, and have been procrastinating over part 3 all day today.

Scanning is an issue, at the moment as they are such large pages. So I'll have to scan each pages in 2 or 3 sections and match them up (so much work) or take a digital photo of them (so lame). If I scan, I can try scanning as "black and white" and they might look like they've been inked already! Sigh, no. Probably not. I'll probably just print them out and trace in ink onto a new page. Which means I can use the digital camera to transfer it to computer initially.
Then I can either print a 'faded' version of the work to ink directly, or just print a proper copy and ink onto a new sheet. Man, I miss the days when I was blasé enough to ink straight away and skip penciling. I just feel like I'm going over the same think, again and again. Grr. Does someone want to collaborate? Please??? Anyone???!!!

Delayed Pleasure

OK, so I lied! I didn't post yesterday, as is my regular thing. But I was busy having a life. No, really. It's Sunday night and I have just now finished the penciled artwork for Doctor Who: Night Light - Part One. Yay.

More to do, though. :-(

Anyway, Saturday was busy spent in very good company, so I don't apologise for not posting. So there!

However, to make up I will post two things! First up is an animation I made in 2007 of one of my original characters. It is a short, comedic version of a moment in this superhero's life. Well, OK, he's not so much super and maybe is really a hero by accident… Never mind! It's made and played for laughs. I hope you enjoy "the Big Bad Me!" - let me know what you think, because he's proper story will be published. I'm working on the pencil work at the moment, as well as some scripts. I have 6 issues planned, at this stage.

Following Me is a Doctor Who related 'funny' (or, rather, 'silly') which I can't remember for certain if it was published in the fanzine I worked on 10 years ago. May have been. I had completed three of them, so here is the first.

The rest of these Doctor Who 'funnies' will be printed on the 'in-between' weeks where Night Light is not being put up. Something tells me I will have to do a lot more funnies, soon. :-S

Anyway, please let me know what you think of these and if you would like to see more of either. I may put up some teaser work for The Big Bad Me! if you like. Enjoy.

This is artwork for Cellblock Booty, a play created, concocted and performed by Sisters Grimm, an off-beat Melbourne theatre group. The play was brilliant, as all of their productions seem to be.

I highly recommend people go to see any of their productions if you hear about them. They have been known to perform outside of Melbourne, too, so don't fret! I believe they are on MySpace, too, so go check them out!

DOCTOR WHO: COVEN - part four - Finalé

Okay! So, I'm late!

But I've been so busy drawing the next Doctor Who comic that I forgot to upload yesterday. Well, I remembered at one stage, when I sat down to do the comics. But jobs around the home got in the way and I only got one page drawn, in the end. One page and no uploads. One page, no uploads, and still not ginger…

Whoops, no, never mind. Not ginger. I eat ginger, not wear it. Aaaanyway…

Below is the conclusion to Doctor Who: Coven. The next Doctor Who comic with be, as I've previously noted, an 8th Doctor comic entitled Night Light. It has a few shout-outs from the past and will eventually be part of a much bigger story, of which Coven is also a part. But all that will come in time.

Night Light won't be ready for another couple of weeks. I want to put part one up once I've made some progress on part two, which I haven't even begun beyond scene breakdowns. I suspect this story will end up quite large, but I guess we'll find out soon enough. At some point I'll need time to work on other stuff, too. I only have a very little time to myself each week (about an hour a day, apart from weekends).

However, until Night Light is put up I will still provide viewing entertainment. As noted in the last post, I may put an animation up for you next week. Maybe an animation and a short comic. I'll put short comics up every Saturday that doesn't have an installment of Night Light.

Anyway, enough of the tomorrows and back to the right now. Or, the right now that should have been yesterday. Or something.

Below is the final installment of Doctor Who: Coven. This features the 6th Doctor, as portrayed by Colin Baker and pits the Time Lord against a gang of blood-drinkers with some high-tech interests.

A Little Filler…

I'm busy working, but felt the need to update.

This Saturday brings the final installment of Doctor Who: Coven. The promised follow-on, Doctor Who: Night Light, featuring the 8th Doctor, probably won't be up for a fortnight following that.

I'm judging the logistics of how much I have to do and will be cramming this weekend to get part one done to my satisfaction. But I doubt it will be enough time, hence the 'fortnight' announcement. Judging by the amount of work involved, it looks like each part of Night Light will be about a fortnight apart - UNLESS SOMEONE WANTS TO HELP WITH INKING! Hint hint!

Depending on how I go this weekend, I may even give Night Light a 3-week delay, just so I can get on top of it a bit better and try to be a chapter ahead of loading. We will see.

But fear not, faithful followers! Or, you other guys, too. I will be placing something up each week, at least on the Saturday, if not in between. I think I have a couple of Doctor Who related things I can throw up between chapters of the next comic. Also, I will upload an animation or two (if I can dig them up). I have an original animation I can post anytime, actually, but I'm saving that for the gap-period.

Just so I know you're getting something of worth each weekend. Well, that's how I describe it, anyway. Ha!

Death Zone Statistics

Okay, so I'm obsessed with checking the stats on this blog. Everyday I log-in, hoping someone has looked. I've had 50 or so in the past month (which is about as long as I've had this blog going). It's OK - not great; not bad.

I decided to look at the graph to show the stats of all my visitors and I made an amazing discovery! I was watch by the Rani in her TARDIS from the Death Zone on Gallifrey! Can you believe it??!

Here's the picture to prove it!

As you can see, to the extreme left is the Rani's TARDIS. To the right is the mountain range surrounding the Death Zone! Oooooh! Spooky!

OK, this is a pointless post for Doctor Who fans, and I'm ashamed of myself for stooping to this level. Forgive me. Or, if you hate me, tell me so in some comments and let me know what you'd rather see!

DOCTOR WHO: COVEN - part three

Sorry I didn't upload this first thing in the morning but it completely slipped my mind. But it is still within the 'weekly' limit I gave myself.

Work is proceeding on my 8th Doctor comic - I've been busily doing pencil roughs for the extended Part One. You've seen some snippets of the original Part One in the posting a few days ago. It was only days, right...? Feels like forever! Anyway, that original work is only 4 pages long and not a lot happens, so I hurriedly wrote 8 more pages and now slightly more happens. Ha ha. I'm hoping to make the rest of the story a bit more pacey and concise (so long as it doesn't sacrifice any plotting or character work). Silly me had plans turn the story into a TV script. I've finally gotten off my rollercoaster of hopeless ideas and brought it back to the printed page. Ish.

Well, I haven't changed the story - it works as is. The test will be transferring it to the comic medium. I haven't written the story beyond a scene breakdown and I'm sure that it can be made into a comic without much difficulty. But you can all let me know as it goes along!

Yes, as ever I would LOVE you to give me feedback! Suggestions! Requests! Money! Adoration! Work as a performer or writer or artist! OK, I'll settle for toy-boy or hooker. Needs must. Until then, keep checking in. I'll be adding sneak-peaks and other bits n pieces throughout the week, leading up to the final chapter of "Coven" next Saturday.

After that I shall, hopefully, be able to upload Doctor Who: Night Light part one the following week. No idea how many parts it will end up as, and the page count will be much longer. All praise the BBC for giving us Doctor Who so that I can waste every spare moment I have doing this for you all! Ha ha. I'm sure it'll pay-off down the line.

OK, onto the penultimate chapter of my 6th Doctor strip. I apologise for the quality of these, especially this chapter. I no longer have the original pages in my possession so I'm settling for scans of the pages of the magazine they were included in! This chapter I particularly notice the quality of the printing, but hopefully you just love it all TOO MUCH to notice. Hmm… maybe I shouldn't have pointed it out. Ho hum.

One Small Step For Man(ish)…

Just watched Doctor Who episode 2 of season 6 - "Day Of The Moon". Brilliant! So, obviously, I had Neil Armstrong's little quote in my head. But with reason.

I stayed up all night to do the page / panel break-downs of my Eighth Doctor comic strip (ooh, 'eighth' is such a weird word to write, almost as weird as "Siúil, siúil, siúil a rúin; Siúil go socair agus siúil go ciúin; Siúil go doras agus ealaigh liom; Is go dtéann tú mo mhuirnín slán" - but that's neither here nor there).

I'm just about to place the dialogue proper into the script, give it the once over and "hey, presto!" part one will be writtin in full! The new, extended 'full' as opposed to the previous partial 'full' of it's original iteration (seriously, who could be happy with a four-page episode?).

Anyway, in celebration of me being on my way to finishing something (yay) I've included some 'sneak-peaks' from part one of Doctor Who: Night Light taken from the existing work I completed ten years ago. Keep checking in for updates and the third installment of Coven will be up next weekend.

Yay! Here's part two, fans! I know you're out there, even if you don't comment... Right...?

So, this blog tells me I did my last two entries on "Thursday", whereas I'm sure it was Friday. So it assume I'm in some alien timezone. So, apart from being up to 20 hours behind I'm starting to feel like I'm rushing this upload, even though it's after midnight here right now.

But this is unimportant. If I wanted to change the timezone I'm sure I could. Instead, I choose to just point it out and marvel at the strangeness of the world, even the virtual parts.

Yeah, I thought I'd add to the 'teaser' by including the cover of my notebook in which I'm plotting out the Benny story. I'm nearing the conclusion with only a few pages of the book left to write in. And I thought I was being concise. :-S

But here's the cover, with a few random design ideas and a Benny rough. It will be set during her solo New Adventures days, simply because it's an easier setting and I won't have to worry about her baby or any of those other tightly-linked relationships shown in the Big Finish range (which are great, by the way, but for a limited story that will need to link to Doctor Who this older setting is much easier to write for).

Oooh, it's a TEASER!

Well, not really all that thrilling. Just letting you know that DOCTOR WHO: COVEN - part 2 will be uploaded tomorrow, if all goes as planned.

I'm currently plotting out a script for a Bernice Summerfield comic, which I wanted to do as part of this Doctor Who series. The plan was to have a 6th Doctor story, an 8th Doctor story, a Bernice Summerfield story, a 5th Doctor story and a 7th Doctor story and then have them all paid-off together in a grand finalé.

Big ideas and not enough output, unfortunately. It was some time ago and I never got past doing 'part one' of the 8th Doctor story. However, now I'm not constrained by fanzine space limitations I intend to make fuller stories, so the 8th Doctor strip has really been fleshed out and I'm in the middle of scripting it out in full. So, the former 'part one' will increase in size and become a, hopefully, more rewarding experience.

I'm putting up the 6th Doctor episodes (4 in total) each week to give me some time to work on the others, but I doubt I'll have enough ready by the end of the Coven run so I'll post some other tid-bits in between the stories and hopefully I'll get time to give you something decent.

DOCTOR WHO: COVEN - part one (First comic to put up. Yay!)

OK, I'm finally getting around to it. I thought the first thing to put up would be a DOCTOR WHO comic featuring (my personal favourite) Colin Baker as the 6th Doctor.

I created this for a fanzine I was working on some time back and it will be part of a much much larger story arc, but is completely self-contained. Evenutally I'll get around to doing all the other stories... he says, ten years later. Some have been started, partially scripted, story breakdowns done... But I'm not yet satisfied. I'll try get them to you soon, if you're interested. Please let me know what you think.

These are about 10 years old and I've done some learning and growing since then. As I mentioned earlier, this was published in a fanzine and available page-count was minimal so the story suffers a little for it, I feel. But, I'm just picky. Let me know what you'd like to see for future uploads.

Actually, this will probably end up showing my creative stuffings. Maybe I'll put up some comics as I get around to them.
